Satellite measurements have provided a new view of the Moho under the Tibetan Plateau, where the Indian plate is violently butting into and diving beneath the Eurasian plate. The Moho, short for Mohorovi?i? (the Croatian seismologist who discovered it), is the layer at the deepest edge of Earth's light crust, before  the mantle's dense, flowing, soft rock . The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) tweeted immediately after the Sunday incident to warn and inform citizens: The quake’s epicenter was only 58 miles southeast of Yunaska Island, which is the largest of the islands in that Aleutian Island chain, which spans from the U.S. to Russia.
