World China Displays Global Expansion With Military Showcase in Africa • November 26, 2017 Images of tanks firing live rounds and soldiers engaging in target practice in the deserts of Djibouti, east Africa played on Chinese state television Friday. The soldiers were from China’s only overseas military base, which was completed in the country only months ago. The second major hurricane to rage through the Caribbean this month, Maria has killed at least 17 people and devastated several small islands, including St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Dominica.
