"I condemn Israel's insistence on its position despite all warnings... and the excessive use of force by Israeli forces against our brothers gathered for Friday prayers," he said in a statement. Erdogan said that he was speaking in his capacity as the current chairman of the summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) whose chairmanship Turkey currently holds. The Philippine Congress voted overwhelmingly (261-18) in favour of the extension to tackle the military insurgency of Isis-affiliated rebel groups on Saturday (22 July). The vote allows Duterte to use the military to enforce law on the island of Mindanao, parts of which have been besieged by militants pledging allegiance to Isis.
